The Newcastle United man however seems unlikely to head to Villa Park.
Reports in France are suggesting that former Newcastle United attacker Hatem Ben Arfa could be heading back to England this January, as Aston Villa are said to be keen on bringing him back to England.
According to a report in L'Equipe, as reported by Foot Mercato, many teams are chasing the Nice winger with Villa in good company.
Borussia Dortmund, Inter Milan, Atletico Madrid, AC Milan and Galatasaray are also keen on signing the player from the Ligue 1 outfit.
Ben Arfa was released by Newcastle in January and a day later signed with Nice. However, because of FIFA regulations who ruled he had played for two teams already last season, he was not allowed to play for Nice until the new season.
He eventually signed for the club in the summer and it has been a resounding success – with the former Newcastle flop scoring seven goals in 21 games this season and a France recall.
However, his form has recently dipped and teams are hoping Nice could be considering moving him on.
However the report also makes it clear that Aston Villa are unlikely to get the player.
Ben Arfa is said to be happy and settled on the French Riviera and Aston Villa's almost certain relegation makes any chance of signing him unlikely.
Then there is the added fact that he and Villa boss Remi Garde are not said to be on good terms regarding their previous working relationship at Lyon.
This rumour looks like fodder for the transfer landfill.
