Harry Kane responds to Tottenham fan account on Twitter, jokes about new record

Harry Kane has responded to a description of what's needed to break Lionel Messi's record.

2014 was the best year of Harry Kane's career - until 2015.

The Tottenham striker carried on where he left off, and firmly established himself as the club's key striker.

He even became an England regular, scoring three goals in his opening eight games for the Three Lions.

He has nine Premier League goals in 17 games this season, adding to his prolific tally for the year.

In the league alone in 2015 he is the top scorer, six clear of Manchester City's Sergio Aguero.

  TeamGoalsAppearances
Harry Kane Tottenham 25 36
Sergio Agüero Man City 19 29
Olivier Giroud Arsenal 19 35
Jamie Vardy Leicester 19 35
Romelu Lukaku Everton 17 34

He is some way short of Lionel Messi however when it comes to Europe wide goalscorers in 2015.

Tottenham fan Twitter account @spursstatman posted on social media that he needs an unreachable 21 goals in his next match to draw level with the Barcelona ace - and Kane responded.

Kane would be happy just to net one and help Spurs win the Boxing Day clash, but it is good to see him paying attention to his achievements and interacting with the club's fans.

That's part of what makes him so admired among the Tottenham support - and why he won't be willing to leave to sign anywhere else.
