Chancel Mbemba has told the Chronicle that it is a dream come true to be playing so regularly for Newcastle United.
Mbemba was brought to Newcastle from Anderlecht in the summer transfer window and he has gone straight into their starting line up.
The Democratic Republic of Congo international has looked assured at the back, and he says that he is loving life at St. James’ Park.
“Every African player dreams of coming to play in England in the Premier League,” Mbemba said.
“Newcastle are a team I dreamt about playing for. They have given me the chance and I have taken that chance.
“Obviously I want to continue playing well and fighting for the team.”
Mbemba has arguably been the most successful of all of Steve McClaren’s summer recruits so far.
Newcastle also snapped up Aleksandar Mitrovic and Florian Thauvin before the season started, but the pair have failed to fully establish their places in McClaren’s starting team despite showing glimpses of their undeniable talent.
Mbemba, on the other hand, has quickly become one of Newcastle’s main defenders in what has been a tough campaign.
The 21-year-old has made 18 appearances in all competitions and has settled well, with his pace and power standing out.
Newcastle are currently in 17th place in the Premier League table, with their next match coming against Everton on Boxing Day.
