Carlos Carvalhal provides fitness update on Sheffield Wednesday's squad

Sheffield Wednesday take on Birmingham City and Middlesbrough in their last two fixtures of 2015.

Carlos Carvalhal has admitted to the Sheffield Star that he does not know if Sheffield Wednesday’s injured players will return for their fixtures over the Christmas period.

The Owls face Birmingham City and Middlesbrough in their next two fixtures, as they look to strengthen their bid for promotion.

Carvalhal’s side could be without the likes of Tom Lees, Michael Turner and Marco Matias for these matches though.

The trio all missed out on Wednesday’s contest with Wolverhampton Wanderers last weekend and Carvalhal admits that they could remain absent for the rest of the year.

“We will see in the next few days,” he said. “I don’t know if they will recover or not.

“We are in a busy period so we would prefer everyone to be available. We need to make sure we share all the players.

“We have absolute confidence in all the squad but the reality is we are missing five or six players. Everybody is important.”

Thankfully for Wednesday, their injury crisis did not appear to affect them negatively when they took on Wolves.

Carvalhal’s men stormed past the Midlands outfit and picked up a highly impressive 4-1 victory in that match.

That win has lifted them up to the outskirts of the play-off places with the Yorkshire outfit perched just one point behind the top six with plenty of football still to be played.
