Villa fought back from one goal down to draw 1-1 with Newcastle on Saturday, and Stiliyan Petrov has told talkSPORT that he was impressed with how the Midlands side improved in the second half of that game.
He said: “They are in a very difficult position, but the performance in the second half [against Newcastle], everybody involved with Aston Villa was more aggressive. There was more aggression to their game, and they played with more passion.”
Villa started the game poorly, and after going one goal down it appeared as if it would be another loss for Remi Garde’s men.
However, they came out in the second prior with more fight and more passion, and Jordan Ayew’s top class goal was enough to claim one point from the game.
A point was really not a great result for Villa, considering they remain 10 points off Premier League safety, but the second half performance suggested that there is enough fight in the squad to bring on a turnaround in fortunes.
If Villa perform as they did in the second half on a more consistent basis, and Garde has them showing this fight and passion for a full 90 minutes, the Midlands side will cause many problems to sides as the campaign wears on.
They may already be relegated, but Garde will ensure that his team will not go down without a fight.
