Steve McClaren gives his opinion on Everton's squad and Roberto Martinez

Newcastle United will host Everton in the Premier League on Boxing Day.

Newcastle United boss Steve McClaren has praised the job Roberto Martinez has done at Everton during his press conference this afternoon, as reported by the club's official Twitter page.

The Magpies are set to host the Toffees in the Premier League on Boxing Day, with both sides desperate to pick up the three points.

McClaren is under no illusions about the scale of the task his side face in the fixture, and he has praised the squad that Martinez has assembled at Goodison Park.

Everton and Newcastle need the win on Boxing Day for differing reasons.

The Merseyside outfit are determined to mount a push for a European place this season, but they have failed to live up to expectations so far.

Martinez’s men are down in 12th place, and they have failed to win any of their last four league matches.

Newcastle, meanwhile, are in better form, and they have picked up seven points from their last three league games.

However, the Magpies are still looking nervously over their shoulders, as they remain just one place above the Premier League relegation zone.
