No fear for Arsenal against Barcelona insists Mesut Ozil

The Gunners face a tough ask to get past the Champions League last 16.

Mesut Ozil has told the Times that Arsenal have no fear of taking on Barcelona in the Champions League last sixteen.

The Gunners were handed arguably one of the hardest draws of the latter stages, having finished second behind Bayern Munich in their group.

Many are now expecting a swift exit from the competition for Arsene Wenger’s side, with last year’s winners once again in fine form.

Key to their success is the unstoppable front three of Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez, with the trio all currently playing at the top of their game.

Coming up against them is not a prospect many fancy, but Ozil says there is no fear for him and his teammates, insisting it is an opportunity for the defenders to prove themselves.

"We respect Barcelona but they will respect us too,” he told the Times.

“We are not afraid of Barcelona. We just need to play our game and we can beat them. There is no fear. In football everything’s possible.”

“It is a tough match but I don’t think our defenders were afraid after the draw. It’s a big opportunity for them to prove themselves against the best attack in the world.”

If there is one man in that defence who is sure to be key to stopping Barcelona’s attacking trio, it will be Laurent Koscielny.

The Frenchman has stepped up his game this season, putting in a number of top displays as his side compete for the Premier League title.

That has led to claims he it the best in the division, if he can manage to stifle the Catalan’s ruthless trio, it would be hard to argue against the claim.
