Former Derby County and Leicester City midfielder Robbie Savage has been quoted as saying by BBC Sport that Aston Villa and Sunderland will get relegated from the Premier League at the end of the season.
Savage has also stated that Newcastle United are in danger of dropping down to the Championship despite their recent positive results.
The former Wales international made the comments following Newcastle’s 1-1 draw with Aston Villa at St. James’ Park in the league on Saturday evening.
"It is a relegation battle for Newcastle this season,” Savage is quoted as saying by BBC Sport. “Villa are awful, but a point for them on that pitch is a good result. But I can't see Villa staying up, Sunderland neither…"
Villa are at the foot of the Premier League table at the moment, having managed just seven points from 17 matches so far this season.
Sunderland are second from bottom with 12 points, while Swansea are three points ahead in 18th.
Newcastle are two points above the relegation zone in 17th spot, level on points with 16th-placed Norwich City.
Steve McClaren’s side have shown signs in recent weeks that they are ready for the fight and can survive in the Premier League for one more season at least.
The Magpies defeated Liverpool 2-0 at St. James’ Park at the start of the month before getting the better of Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 at White Hart Lane in North London.
