Newcastle are reportedly pursuing Sassuolo star Sime Vrsaljko.
The Magpies have shown some signings of recovery in recent weeks, taking an impressive seven points from games against Liverpool, Tottenham and Aston Villa.
Steve McClaren's men still sit just two points clear of the relegation zone, and may need to bring in some new signings in January to make sure they pull away from the bottom three.
Now, Tutto Mercato Web are reporting that Newcastle have enquired about a deal for Sassuolo ace Sime Vrsaljko, who plays at either right back or on the right of midfield.
Vrsaljko, 23, starred with Dinamo Zagreb and Genoa before joining Sassuolo in 2014, and having continued to develop in Serie A, he seems ready to make a move to a bigger club.
TMW report that Arsenal are interested in his services, but Newcastle have taken the first step towards signing him by enquiring about his availability - but have allegedly been scared off by the €10m (£7.5m) asking price on his head.
A 15-cap Croatian international, Vrsaljko would be a versatile option down the right hand side for Newcastle, offering cover behind right back Daryl Janmaat as well as a solid option on the right wing - but after a summer spending spree, Newcastle may be looking for cheaper deals than the mooted price for Vrsaljko.
Would Vrsaljko be a good signing for Newcastle?
