Report: Aston Villa to withdraw from the bidding for Steve Mandanda

Villa Park Outside

Aston Villa had lined up Steve Mandanda as a potential replacement for Brad Guzan.

According to the Daily Mail, Aston Villa will withdraw from the race to sign Marseille goalkeeper Steve Mandanda.

Remi Garde wants to sign a new number one in January, as Brad Guzan’s performances this season have not been particularly impressive.

However, the French boss reportedly has reservations over signing Mandanda, who he knows well from his time in Ligue 1.

Garde and the Villa coaching staff all believe that Mandanda would struggle to cope with Premier League football.

The Claret and Blues are desperate to make additions in the new year, as they have made such a poor start to the season.

Villa are already 10 points away from safety, and there is a realisation that they need to invest in January to have any chance of survival.

The Villains have been linked with the likes of Leeds United’s Sam Byram in the Daily Mail, and Everton’s Steven Naismith by The Sun.
