Leeds United defender Liam Cooper has revealed to the club’s official website what head coach Steve Evans keeps telling the players.
“We were getting written off, but we’ve proved a lot of people wrong and a lot of teams in the league wrong as well,” said Cooper. “They’ll be looking down now and looking at us coming for them.
“The manager keeps saying ‘put a few wins together and teams above you will start thinking ‘Leeds are coming.’
“But he keeps getting on at us about not getting complacent and I don’t think the lads will. We’ve not got that type of character."
Leeds have won their last two games in the Championship and are in decent form at the moment.
The Whites’ performances against Wolverhampton Wanderers (a 3-2 away win) and Preston North End (a 1-0 home victory) were not great, but at the end of the day three points are all that matter.
Evans does not have a squad strong enough to challenge for a top-six finish in the Championship this season, but there is a chance that the team could push for the playoffs.
Heading into Christmas, Leeds find themselves 13th in the Championship table with 29 points from 22 matches.
The West Yorkshire outfit are just five points behind Ipswich Town, who are currently sixth and occupy the final playoff spot.
Leeds will face Nottingham Forest away from home at the City Ground in the Championship this coming Sunday.
