Tottenham’s Kane is chasing down Jamie Vardy’s goal tally.
Speaking to Ham&High, Harry Kane has spoken about Jamie Vardy’s impressive goalscoring form this season, as he looks to close the gap on the Premier League’s leading striker in the second-half of the campaign.
Kane said: “Jamie’s been doing great, full credit to him. He’s come in this season and done really well. All the other strikers have been trying to keep up with him. He’s set the standard high and fast but there’s still a long way to go. As a striker you’ve just got to keep working hard and trying to improve and that’s what I’m doing, and slowly sneaking up the goal tally, and I’m happy.”
Kane scored against Southampton at the weekend, with his solo run and finish becoming his ninth Premier League strike of the season. He has 13 in all competitions, but he is someway off matching Vardy’s tally yet this term.
The Leicester star has 15 to his name in the Premier League, and is most closely rivalled by Romelu Lukaku, his own teammate Riyad Mahrez, and Watford’s Odion Ighalo.
Kane sits in fifth place in the list of leading scorers, but after a slow start to the season, it appears as if he is no up to full form and match fitness, and it is hard to see him going on a long goalscoring drought any time soon.
The Spurs hero has spoken highly of Vardy, who is also his rival at international level, claiming that he has set the standard for what is expected to be a Premier League striker this term.
Vardy has utilised his pace and energy to fantastic effect, transforming his limited skill-set into a perfectly honed collection of traits which mean he excels in front of goal.
Kane is undoubtedly a more naturally gifted footballer, but if Vardy continues his scoring streak, the Spurs man will struggle to top the goalscoring charts this year.
