Arsenal defeated Manchester City 2-1 on Monday evening.
Goals from Theo Walcott and Olivier Giroud handed Arsenal a vital 2-1 win over Manchester City on Monday evening.
City controlled the ball for various stages, without ever really making their possession count, and Walcott scored with Arsenal’s first shot on target. It was a lovely finish, and showed the difference in quality between the two sides.
Giroud netted the second just before half-time, and whilst Yaya Toure pulled one back with eight minutes remaining, City left it too late to equalise.
The three points kept them in second place, but ensured that Leicester did not pull away with a large gap at the top of the table, and the Gunners dealt a huge motivational blow to City by beating them.
It was a performance which proved Arsenal title credentials, and whilst the stars such as Mesut Ozil and Walcott stole the headlines, there was one player who really put in a strong performance.
Joel Campbell has started to establish himself in the Arsenal team this season, and he put in arguably his best performance of the campaign last night.
He was strong on the ball, and rarely wasteful, and whilst the 23-year-old doesn’t have the guile of his more illustrious teammates, he has a work rate not matched by anyone in the first-team squad.
Following the game, fans took to Twitter to react to Campbell’s performance, with many claiming that he has started to look like a player deserving of a place in Arsenal’s starting XI.
@HassGeee players like Flamini and Campbell have done superb. Not really missing Coquelin or Sanchez. Squad depth isn't bad— Elliott (@Fatah_AFC) December 21, 2015
