Leeds United beat Preston North End 1-0 at the weekend.
Leeds have put in flowing displays against Wolverhampton Wanderers and Charlton Athletic recently, but they were forced to show another side to their game against Preston North End yesterday.
The Whites failed to reach their optimum performance levels against the Lilywhites, but they still managed to pick up a 1-0 win and Evans was heartened to see the character within his squad.
“I said to them at the end of the game that you can’t always go out and play the way that we did against Wolverhampton or Charlton, in the second half,” he said.
“There is going to be days, especially here at Elland Road where the expectation is so high, that we’re going to have grind it out.”
Leeds were given a helping hand in their pursuit of picking up the three points against North End, as Jordan Pickford was sent off in the contest.
The goalkeeper came rushing out of his area, and was adjudged to have handled by the referee.
Preston were forced to bring on 17-year-old stopper Matt Hudson to make his debut, and the youngster could not stop Alan Browne diverting the ball into his own net.
Leeds then held on to their advantage to claim a valuable victory, which has lifted them up to 13th in the Championship table.
