Jose Mourinho is being discussed by fans and pundits alike as a sudden answer to Manchester United's current problems.
Former Blues assistant Ray Wilkins believes that given that United are still in fifth place in the Premier League table, a title challenge is still possible, and Jose Mourinho could inspire it.
He told SkySports: "I think they'd have every chance yes, because I think he's very charasmatic, a lot of people have been saying do a club like Manchester United need the aggravation he might bring off the field as well as on it, but that's Jose."
Fellow pundit Jamie Redknapp shared his enthusiasm that Mourinho can make an impact at Old Trafford, even if he admits it is surprising that the option suddenly seems feasible.
He said: "Manchester United is a huge brand. If you bring in someone like Jose Mourinho who's box office straight away it lights the place up, there's no doubt about it... or do you wait for Pep Guardiola?
"If you had said to me two or three years ago Jose Mourinho would ever go near Manchester United I wouldn't have believed it. This is a club that believes in continuity, managers staying for a long time, and being successful, but as it stands I think Manchester United have become like every other team now."
Just the fact the topic is being debated, shows all is not well at Old Trafford with Louis van Gaal in charge. The Red Devils face Stoke City and Chelsea up next, needing back to back wins to turn around their season.
