Celtic are interested in signing Romaine Sawyers from Walsall, according to The Daily Record.
It has been reported by the Scottish newspaper that Celtic scouts watched the 24-year-old midfielder in action at the weekend.
The former West Bromwich Albion prospect started Walsall’s League One match against Port Vale at the Banks's Stadium on Sunday afternoon and played for the entire 90 minutes.
Sean O’Driscoll’s side won the match 2-0 and are now three points behind leaders Burton Albion in second place with a game in hand.
Sawyers has been one of the best players in League One so far this season and has scored six goals.
The Daily Record claims that Celtic could either sign Sawyers in the January transfer window or agree a pre-contract with him as his current deal with Walsall runs out at the end of the season.
The Saint Kitts and Nevis international midfielder joined Walsall on a permanent contract in the summer of 2013 after being released by West Brom.
Sawyers failed to break into the first team at the Baggies, but it seems that he could find himself playing for one of Scotland’s biggest clubs before long.
