According to French radio station RMC Sport, Aston Villa have contacted Bordeaux playmaker Wahbi Khazri and his representatives over a January deal.
Villa fought back to earn a 1-1 draw against Newcastle United on Saturday evening, but they remain bottom of the Premier League table with just seven points from 17 games.
Manager Remi Garde needs a miracle to keep Villa in the top flight, but January offers him a chance to bring in some new signings in a desperate bid to avoid relegation.
Now, RMC Sport suggest that Villa are already taking steps towards a deal for Bordeaux sensation Wahbi Khazri, with French boss Garde no doubt familiar with what he can do.
The former Bastia star had hit five goals and six assists for Bordeaux this season, and those exploits appear to have triggered interest in his signature.
RMC Sport report that Villa have already contacted the Tunisian international and his representatives over a January deal, with Garde hoping to bring in some creativity to his struggling Villa side.
It's stated that Villa will make a concrete offer for the 24-year-old in the coming days, and have even reassured the player that there will be a clause in his contract allowing him to leave if Villa suffer relegation to the Championship this season, as they hope to lure Khazri to Villa Park.
