Paul Merson offers Mauricio Pochettino some Tottenham Hotspur team selection advice

Tottenham Hotspur have generally used the same core of players throughout the season so far.

Paul Merson has told Sky Sports Soccer Saturday, which was broadcast on 19th December 2015, that Mauricio Pochettino needs to start rotating his squad more.

Spurs have generally stuck with the same core of players over the season so far, but Merson believes that he has seen signs of fatigue in Tottenham’s squad recently.

The Lilywhites have won just once in their last four league matches, and Merson claims that Pochettino may have to start altering his preferred line-up.

“We saw when Pochettino was at Southampton that in the second half of the season they faded away,” the former Arsenal midfielder said.

“Tottenham need to recharge their batteries, and it’s an important job for him now to start leaving players out for a game or two. They are picking the same players every week.

“But I still think they’re a good team.”

The likes of Hugo Lloris, Kyle Walker, Jan Vertonghen, Toby Alderweireld, Eric Dier, Dele Alli and Harry Kane have all been virtual mainstays in Tottenham’s team this season.

Merson’s suggestion that Spurs have been burnt out by their exertions so far this season, could have been premature though – as they were excellent against Southampton in their most recent outing.

Tottenham won 2-0 at St. Mary’s on Saturday, and their performance in that fixture was highly impressive.

Spurs are now in the top four, and they will be looking to protect their lofty position over the busy Christmas period.
