Seamus Coleman says Everton need to stop conceding too many goals

Everton have struggled to keep clean sheets this season.

Everton defender Seamus Coleman has admitted that the side needs to sort their defending out after shipping three goals against Leicester City at the weekend.

The Toffees have only managed to keep the one clean sheet in their last 11 Premier League games and it has been a problem for the side given that their attacking threat is up there with the better sides in the league.

But lapses in concentrating and costly errors seem to be holding Everton back, and their right-back has called for these issues to be addressed.

He told the Liverpool Echo: “We’ve scored two goals and that should be enough to win games, but not with us at the minute.

“We’re conceding too many goals and we need to sort it out.

“I come out and do these interviews and you have to say the right things but there is no point in saying it if we don’t do it.

“We have great quality going forward and we can score goals so all we need to do is stop conceding silly goals and then we will be where we want to be.

“But it’s all well and good me saying it, we have to do it.”

They have Romelu Lukaku in great form but he can't carry the side through game if there are so many defensive mishaps. While the side may be missing Phil Jagielka at the heart of their defence, the warning signs have been there for a while even when their skipper was part of the starting XI.

Their goalkeeper has been uninspiring and there seems to be little protection for the defence as sides of differing abilities seem to be getting some joy against the Everton back line lately.

If Everton are to climb the table, they need to be more organised and disciplined at the back, starting at Newcastle on Boxing Day.
