Aston Villa need a player who can bring goals to their team in January.
Jordan Ayew looks to be the only source of goals in Aston Villa’s team, and signing a new striker in January should be Remi Garde’s priority if Premier League survival is a real aim.
They need someone to come in who will bring guaranteed goals over a short space of time, and that might mean looking past quality and signing some currently in great form in front of the net.
This is where Nemanja Nikolics comes in, after his expectational half-season with Legia Warsaw in Poland’s Ekstraklasa.
The Hungarian international, 27, had spent all his season in his homeland prior to joining Legia in the summer, with an impressive scoring rate in the NB I - Hungary’s tip division.
However, that was a low quality league, and bigger teams were not ready to swoop for him due to that. Legia took a risk on him in the summer, and have so far been repaid with a return of 21 goals and six assist in 21 league games.
He is arguably the most in-form striker in Europe, and he has only not scored in six of his 21 appearances this term.
He is not a big name, or a player many would suggest as a suitable signing, but Villa need goals, and with Nikolics on his form this season, he would bring them.
Form should be Villa’s main way of targeting players in January, and the Midlands side should go all out to sign Nikolics when the transfer window opens.
All he needs to do is continue his form, and Villa’s chances of remaining in the top flight would improve exponentially.
