Arsenal host fellow Premier League contenders Manchester City at the Emirates Stadium on Monday night in a fascinating encounter which could have big implications in title race.
The Gunners head into the encounter occupying second place in the table, five points behind surprise league leaders Leicester City and one point ahead of their upcoming opponents.
It’s a clash in which neither team will want to lose, however only a draw would leave the Foxes four points clear and pretty comfortable as they don’t look like letting up just yet.
Arsenal head into the clash missing number of key players such as Francis Coquelin, Santi Cazorla and Alexis Sanchez, while City will be without Vincent Kompany, Pablo Zabaleta and possibly Sergio Aguero.
In a perfect world both teams would be at full strength, though football never tends to work out like that. However, if they were, who would make a combined Arsenal-City best XI?
As per the graphic above, this is what a potential best XI could look like though naturally there will be a few contentious calls and selections which could have gone either way.
Joe Hart or Petr Cech? Both goalkeepers are undoubtedly among the best in the Premier League, however the latter’s experience gives him the edge.
The centre-backs are fairly straight-forward, however the fullbacks are a tough choice. Pablo Zabaleta can play on either flank, while Hector Bellerin’s pace is a real weapon going forward.
Yaya Toure and Francis Coquelin would add real steel in midfield, and the perfect balance for an attacking quartet which would no doubt place plenty of fear into their Premier League opponents.
Mesut Ozil has been in fine form for Arsenal this season, racking up 13 assists in 15 league matches. David Silva, on the other hand, has six assists in eight starts.
Alexis Sanchez gets the nod over Kevin De Bruyne based on the past 18 months, though the latter has actually performed better this season – scoring four and assisting six in ten league starts.
And Sergio Aguero completes the line-up, the Argentine international proving to be among the best strikers in world football with an amazing 85 league goals in 129 appearances for City.
