Kalvin Phillips was brought on for Leeds United in their 1-0 win against Preston North End earlier today.
Coyle and Phillips have broken into Leeds' first team set-up in recent times, and Evans even brought Phillips on against Preston North End on Sunday afternoon.
The young midfielder helped the Whites close out a 1-0 victory at Elland Road, which has lifted them up to 13th in the Championship table.
“Kalvin Phillips has come on to the bench today because he’s demonstrated in training that he is ready to compete for a place here, and it’s the same with Lewie Coyle," Evans said.
“I don’t care whether they are 18 or 98, if they’re good enough we’ll pick them.
“There’s nothing better than seeing young fresh hungry legs. I know Phillips only got a few minutes today, but it’s great to see because he was miles away four weeks ago.”
Phillips was actually handed a few starts towards the back end of last season by Neil Redfearn.
The 20-year-old has found opportunities harder to come by this campaign, but he has still played on six occasions for the Yorkshire club.
Coyle, meanwhile, is waiting for his first chance in a Leeds shirt.
The right-back was expected to head out on loan last month, but the move fell through and he has remained with Leeds.
Since then most of his time has been spent of the substitutes’ bench, but he has recently been rewarded with a new contract and there are high hopes for his future at Elland Road.
