Steve Evans admits he made a poor decision against Preston

Leeds United

Leeds United defeated Preston North End 1-0 at Elland Road in the Championship this evening.

Leeds United head coach Steve Evans has told BBC Sport that he should not have taken Luke Murphy off against Preston North End this evening.

The 26-year-old midfielder started the Championship game against Preston at Elland Road, but he was substituted in the 64th minute with Souleymane Doukara coming on in his place.

“With the benefit of hindsight, taking Luke Murphy off was a poor decision,” Evans told BBC Sport. “We comfortably got into their half but people were overrunning the final ball.”

Preston finished the game with 10 men, but they made the Whites work hard for the 1-0 win.

Leeds goalkeeper Marco Silvestri had to make as many as nine saves, but in the end the West Yorkshire outfit bagged the three points.

The Whites are 13th in the Championship table at the moment with 29 points from 22 matches, just five points behind Ipswich Town, who are currently sixth and occupy the final playoff spot.

Leeds will return to action next Sunday when they take on Nottingham Forest away from home at the City Ground.

Forest are currently 15th in the standings with 28 points from 22 matches.
