Souleymane Doukara’s response when asked how far Leeds can go

Leeds United have been an also-ran in the Championship for years.

Leeds United attacker Souleymane Doukara has given a rather vague answer to BBC Radio Leeds when asked how far the team can go this season.

The 24-year-old, who can play as a striker or as a winger, was asked the question following Leeds’ 3-2 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers away from home at Molineux on Thursday evening.

“I don’t know,” said Doukara. “The Championship is long. We have to stay focused every weekend.”

It is smart of Doukara not to set a specific target, at least not in public, but perhaps Leeds should aim for a top-10 finish.

The Whites have a squad strong enough to avoid relegation from the Championship, and head coach Steve Evans should try to push the team up the table.

Leeds have won against Hull City and Wolves this month, and the West Yorkshire outfit need to take confidence from that.

As Doukara says, the Championship is long and anything is possible. For years, the Whites have been an also-ran in the second tier of English football.

It is not going to change this season, but finishing in the top 10 this campaign will certainly be classed as progress.
