Robbie Savage gives his verdict on Newcastle and Sunderland

Both Newcastle United and Sunderland are in danger of getting relegated from the Premier League.

Former Leicester City and Derby County midfielder Robbie Savage has given his verdict on Sunderland and Newcastle United’s season so far in The Mirror.

Both the Black Cats and the Magpies are in danger of getting relegated from the Premier League at the end of the 2015-16 campaign.

“They were heading for the cane in Headmaster Sav’s office until the last couple of results against Liverpool and Spurs dug them out of a massive hole,” wrote Savage about Newcastle in The Mirror.

“Until then, they were woeful and manager Steve McClaren’s not in the clear yet. Grade: C-“

Savage has given Sunderland Grade ‘D’ and has explained: “Every year, they seem to dice with the drop and, sooner or later, their luck is going to run out. I still believe Sam Allardyce will keep them up, but there is little margin for error now.”

Newcastle and Sunderland are two of the biggest clubs in England and regularly attract thousands of fans to their respective home matches.

However, both of them are genuine candidates for relegation to the Championship at the end of the season.

The Magpies, though, appear to have come into form recently, having defeated Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur in their last two Premier League games.

In Sam Allardyce, Sunderland have a manager who knows how to get teams out of sticky situations, and there is hope for the Black Cats.

Sunderland will take on Chelsea away from home at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League today, while Newcastle will host Aston Villa at St. James’ Park.
