Former Chelsea and Manchester United midfielder Ray Wilkins predicted on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show on talkSPORT on Friday morning (December 18) that Newcastle United will win against Aston Villa this weekend.
Newcastle will take on the Villans at St. James’ Park in the Premier League on Saturday evening, and former Villa assistant manager Wilkins believes that the home team will register a victory.
“It was a rejuvenated Newcastle last week, fantastic win against Tottenham, and you can’t really see too far past Newcastle,” said the Englishman.
Newcastle will head into Saturday evening’s match as favourites, having won their last two Premier League games.
The Magpies got the better of Liverpool 2-0 at St. James’ Park at the start of the month and registered a narrow 2-1 win against Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane in North London last weekend.
Steve McClaren’s side appear to be in good form at the moment, and it will be a surprise if they fail to win against Villa.
Remi Garde’s side are at the foot of the Premier League table at the moment with just six points from 16 matches.
Villa have gone 15 Premier League games without a win, the longest run without a victory in their league history.
The Villans have kept just two clean sheets in their 16 league games this season.
