Premier League duo Chelsea and Manchester City are monitoring Karim Benzema’s situation at Real Madrid, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the potential deal.
Benzema’s future at the Bernabeu has been the subject of speculation for some time with Arsenal strongly linked with a move for the Frenchman during the summer transfer window.
The 27-year-old has endured a difficult time off the pitch this season, with the striker being been suspended indefinitely from the French national team after a bizarre situation with Lyon midfielder Mathieu Valbuena, as reported by BBC Sport.
Benzema, who has protested his innocence and denied all the charges involved, is thought to be considering his long-term future at Real feeling the club could have supported him more during the whole incident.
The news of Benzema’s possible availability has alerted a host of Europe’s top clubs with Chelsea and Manchester City both long-term admirers of the player.
Chelsea are planning to sign a new striker in January to try and solve their goal-scoring problems, and Benzema is thought to figure high on their wanted list.
Manchester City are also considering their striking options after failing to bring in a replacement for Edin Dzeko following his departure to Roma in the summer, while they have also been short of cover whenever Sergio Aguero has been out injured.
It remains to be seen if Real Madrid would consider selling Benzema in January, but they are bracing themselves for interest in the former Lyon hit-man in January or in the summer.
