Ray Wilkins suggested on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show on talkSPORT on Friday morning (December 18) that Chelsea will win against Sunderland this weekend.
The Blues will take on Sunderland at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon, and former Chelsea assistant manager Wilkins seems to believe that the home team will pick up all three points.
“It has been a good hunting ground for Sunderland over the past couple of years and they have done okay there,” said Wilkins.
“So they might be thinking that they are going in there to have an easy one, but it’s just like the players to turn it on Saturday and give Sunderland a bit of a good hiding.”
Former Liverpool and Newcastle United winger John Barnes has backed Chelsea to register a 1-0 win against Sunderland.
“Despite all that’s happened at Chelsea recently I still think they’ll beat Sunderland,” the former England international has predicted on Titanbet.co.uk.
“Sam Allardyce’s team won’t roll over and will be fired up for this, but sometimes players start playing well in situations like the one at Stamford Bridge. Goalscorer – Diego Costa.”
Chelsea are in a wretched run of form at the moment and are just one point above the Premier League relegation zone.
Having recently sacked Jose Mourinho as their manager, the Blues will be looking to return to winning ways.
Sunderland are in bad form as well, but the Black Cats will head to London knowing that they have nothing to lose.
Pressure will be on the Chelsea players, who have severely underperformed throughout the season.
