Leeds clinched a 3-2 victory over Wolves at Molineux yesterday evening, with Kenny Jackett’s men struggling to put in a competitive performance.
They went ahead through Benik Afobe, but Wolves were outplayed by Leeds from the moment Souleymane Doukara was brought into the game on the 30th minute.
Sam Byram netted twice, either side of a Stuart Dallas goal, to send the travelling side into the led, and although Nathan Byrne pulled one back for Wolves with his first goal for the club, Jackett’s team couldn’t get the equalising goal in the final 10 minutes.
Jackett reacted to the need for a goal by throwing central defender Danny Batth upfront, a move which brought a lot of criticism from fans considering that Grant Holt was sitting on the substitutes bench.
This was not the only part of Batth’s performance which brought him criticism, as his natural defensive role looked completely out of sorts against the Whites.
He was given the run around by the Doukara, Dallas and Byram, and whilst he was strong in the air against Chris Wood, that was more down to Wood’s struggles rather than his own strengths.
Batth, captain of Wolves, has struggled this season as the team has struggled, and fans took to Twitter after the loss to Leeds to react to his performance - with one criticising the centre-back for never being as good as Joleon Lescott was when he was 19-years-old.
Danny Batth has never been as good as Joleon Lescott was at 19! Shame we haven't had a solid CB since Craddock— Steve Watkiss /\_/\ (@SteveWatkiss) December 17, 2015
@MrRyanLeister 5 defenders at the club, including Doherty and EEL. Embarrassing. And Batth - our captain - is clueless.— Mark Stefanyszyn (@m_stefanyszyn) December 17, 2015
@m_stefanyszyn I got slated for saying this last week. Batth especially, I wouldn't sign him for a conference side— ForestRed. (@ForestRed1) December 17, 2015
The irony is that there's a good portion of our fanbase that believe Danny Batth, 25, will play for England one day.— MattDohertyFanClub (@Doherty_Fan) December 17, 2015
Ebanks-Landell is an absolute liability. Batth was horrible tonight as was Iorfa. Golbourne, absolutely lazy for the 3rd goal— Matthew M Summers (@Matt_Summerz) December 17, 2015
Can Danny batth do anything good with a ball at his feet ?— No Price No Points (@Joe_WWFC_97) December 17, 2015
Why put Danny batth up front when he doesn't win anything anyway, why not take take him off an bring holt on— Brett Reader (@brettWWFC) December 17, 2015
Danny Batth is going right down in my estimations, so poor again— Ali (@Ali_WWFC) December 17, 2015
Danny Batth struggles as a defender never mind sticking him up top— richard finch (@finchy_84) December 17, 2015
We played some better football first half but we wont win many games with a CB pairing of Batth and EEL, suicidal. Graham superb again #wwfc— Zackary Haynes (@Z4CK93) December 17, 2015
Danny Batth possesses no leadership traits, how he's our captain amazes me.— Louis (@LouisClark_WWFC) December 17, 2015
