Roma sporting director Walter Sabatini has confirmed to Retesport that Watford have been in negotiations with the Giallorossi for the transfer of Juan Iturbe.
Sabatini said: “For Iturbe, there are negotiations of course with Watford.”
The Guardian reported earlier this week that Watford were closing in on the signing of Iturbe, with a loan deal lined up and an option to buy clause included.
However, there were no confirmations that these were nothing more than rumours, and Sabatini has clarified the situation by confirming that Iturbe is very much in talks about a transfer to the Hornets.
Iturbe, who struggled for Roma in their Coppa Italia loss to Spezia on Wednesday, has started just three league games this season, and has only played 399 minutes of Serie A football.
He is very much out of the first-team picture at Roma, and his departure in January is looking all the more likely.
It is just amazing that a club of Watford’s size are able to tempt Iturbe to Vicarage Road, although the Pozzo family have proven their excellence in the transfer market on many occasions.
