According to a report in the Italian publication Tuttomercatoweb, Manchester City are plotting a ‘mind-boggling’ bid for Valencia’s talented midfielder Andre Gomes.
City aren’t shy from spending big money in order to strengthen their squad, and an addition or two could be on the cards in January as the club seek to bolster their title bid.
Manuel Pellegrini’s side currently sit third in the Premier League table, one point behind Arsenal who they face on Monday and three points adrift of surprise league leaders Leicester City.
Despite their vast wealth and quality squad, City are arguably still short in key areas in terms of challenging on all fronts and there is scope for an addition or two.
As written in a report on Italian website Tuttomercatoweb, Andre Gomes’ proposed move to Napoli seems to have hit the rocks amid Manchester City plan to make a ‘mind-boggling’ offer for the midfielder.
“The Valencia star seemed the right man to lead Napoli’s midfield, but his high valuation and the risk of an auction has forced the Blues to look around. In fact, Manchester City are preparing an offer mind-boggling to Valencia and the player,” the report states.
Gomes joined Valencia initially on a season-long loan deal before making his move permanent in the summer, signing a five-year deal at the Mestalla Stadium.
The 22-year-old is predominantly a central midfielder who is also capable of playing as a number 10 or a wide forward as he possesses excellent dribbling skills and an eye for a key pass.
He has featured nine times in La Liga for Valencia this season, scoring twice and adding one assist, and is now working under Gary Neville.
Gomes has represented Portugal on four occasions, breaking in to the international side during their successful Euro 2016 qualification campaign.
