Liverpool fans troll Mignolet on Twitter after club offer free training session

Simon Mignolet

It was for a good cause but the Reds could have shown a little more social-media awareness!

It is the season of good will and charity - and Liverpool's official Twitter account posted something very much in keeping with that on Thursday afternoon. The only problem was that it didn't show much footballing awareness...

Indeed, in posting a competition for charity that sees the winner get a training session with Simon Mignolet and Adam Bogdan, Liverpool forgot a rather key point: that Mignolet's stock with fans is a little low right now to say the least.

The 27-year-old is the Premier League's most error-prone goalkeeper in recent times, according to Sky Sports, and made another costly mistake during the Reds' 2-2 draw with West Brom last weekend.

His handling and kicking are poor, almost canceling out Mignolet's main quality - his reflex shot stopping - while his command of his penalty area is virtually non-existent.

So, when Liverpool offered the chance to train with the Belgian and back-up 'keeper Bogdan, fans were less than impressed. Few took issue with Bogdan but the majority of the responses towards Mignolet all shared a common theme. The most popular were suggestions Mignolet would learn more from the session than the competition winner - or that the winner would get worse as a goalkeeper if they listened to the 27-year-old.

Here's how supporters reacted on Twitter en masse...
