The Frenchman has not enjoyed his time back at Porto.
Reports in Portugal have recently suggested that Aston Villa could be welcoming a new arrival in January, just not one many actually wanted.
Cissokho has not been training with the Portuguese club in recent times. The report claims that Cissokho and Remi Garde have been in contact and the defender will return.
Now he has officially been let go by Porto. The club confirmed on their website earlier today that Cissokho has been allowed back to Villa this week after a poor stint in Portugal.
He was not wanted by previous boss Tim Sherwood but Garde had him at Lyon and could see a role for him at Villa Park.
Cissokho may be an erratic performer but he will bring some much needed cover to a position where Villa need it.
Jordan Amavi's injury has exposed the club at the left-back position with Leandro Bacuna and Kieran Richardson failing to impress in that role since the French Under-21 international suffered his knee ligament damage.
Cissokho, who has previously played for Liverpool, had not played for Porto since the 25th October and will hopefully relish a return to Villa Park.
