Sol Campbell comments on Tottenham Hotspur, explains his doubts

Sol Campbell believes Tottenham's players will be tested down the stretch as they race to finish in the top four.

Sol Campbell has praised Tottenham's start to the season but warned tougher challenges are to come, in an exclusive interview with

Spurs currently sit in fifth place in the Premier League, suffering a setback by losing to Newcastle at the weekend.

Campbell began his career with Spurs before moving on controversially to rivals Arsenal, and has given his thoughts on their season so far.

He said: “This season they’re playing fantastic and very in sync. The team is helping but once the team stops helping that’s when more pressure is put on them.

"I look at individuals and how they cope under pressure when they’re on their own or exposed. You’ll not always have the team around you to help out and sometimes you’ve got to break out and you’re vulnerable.

"That’s when I’ll see what kind of player you are when 15 times in a game you’re outnumbered and have to make it work. I want to see that more and obviously I will as the season goes on and the team gets tired.

"As more gaps appear lets see how they work it out and be solid.”

Tottenham had been unbeaten in the league between the opening day of the season and last weekend, and were winning plaudits for their consistent performances, also finishing top of their Europa League group.

Now after their loss to Newcastle they will want to bounce back quickly, and show that they have the mental resilience to do so.

Spurs travel to Southampton on Saturday, with Toby Alderweireld facing his former club for the first time, and current head coach Mauricio Pochettino returning to St Mary's once again.
