Newcastle United are set to spend in January, to add quality to their squad.
According to the Daily Star, Newcastle United will prioritise signing a central defender and a clinical striker in the January transfer window.
Although the Magpies have climbed away from danger in recent weeks there is still a feeling that they need to improve their squad.
Newcastle are only two points above the relegation zone and manager Steve McClaren is reportedly eager to add a sprinkling of quality to his team in the new year.
The Magpies are keen to add a powerful centre-back, as they have struggled in defensive situations throughout the campaign so far.
Fabricio Coloccini has been very inconsistent, and they have a lack of cover – with Mike Williamson and Jamaal Lascelles the only two viable reserve options at St. James’ Park right now.
Newcastle will also reportedly aim to add a striker, as they look to increase their attacking threat.
Although Aleksandar Mitrovic and Ayoze Perez have shown signs of promise, neither have hit the net with great regularity, and McClaren feels the signing of a poacher could be important.
