The pundit has been discussing the struggling Midlands outfit.
Martin Keown thinks relegation is already guaranteed for Aston Villa, according to his regular 'Tackle Keown' Q + A session on the Daily Mail website.
And the former defender has also questioned what we've seen of Remi Garde so far, with the pundit comparing him to a 'rabbit in the headlights.'
Keown told the Mail: "I have to say I think Aston Villa are down already. There was a good reaction from Villa fans at the weekend but they have to be realistic and understand the situation they are in.
"I like Remi Garde and think he could do well but I’d like to see some more spark and fire from him because he looks a bit like a rabbit in the headlights. He needs to make things happen, and quickly.
"The players themselves need to show how much they want to play for the club. It’s never a good thing to go down, it’s a disaster and Villa won’t want to be in there. But I think they need to start planning for that now."
Some pundits have felt the fact Garde - with only a few weeks at Villa Park - hasn't been able to fix things is an excuse to sing Tim Sherwood's praises. Obviously, it's not. Sherwood had a terrible record. Someone else having one doesn't erase that evidence.
But Keown certainly isn't the only one questioning the 'fire' shown by the Frenchman and those who suggested Aston Villa could have gone for someone with more Premier League experience may have a little more ground to feel justified.
Naturally, Garde needs time. Yet the ways forward presented by some reports aren't making it easy for him. There have been suggestions Villa can spend anything they make from player sales in January. How much will their struggling stars actually raise in the way of funds, though?
The Midlands outfit need something fast - but their situation is making it look like there's no way out.
