The Everton star certainly has a resemblance in playing style to the Stoke City legend.
In recent weeks one Everton player has been catching the eye more than any other. Romelu Lukaku has been in top form, smashing in the goals for The Toffees and making Chelsea fans cringe up and down the country.
But he has a lot to thank Gerard Deulofeu for.
The summer signing from Barcelona has been in fantastic form recently and Lukaku has been the main beneficiary of his dangerous wing-play.
One man who is a big fan of the Spaniard is former Everton and Arsenal defender Martin Keown.
Writing in his weekly column for the Daily Mail Keown had massive praise for Deulofeu, even comparing him to and English footballing legend:
"Lukaku is certainly proving to Chelsea, who let him go, that he’s good enough. But I’d like to see him fired up more. If Martinez really gets him at it 100 per cent then everything falls into place. What does help is how good Deulofeu is at crossing and feeding Lukaku.
"Rather unusually these days he’s actually a right-winger who plays on the right wing. He has a jink like Stanley Matthews – he approaches a defender, drops a shoulder and he’s gone. And that means he is crossing with his strongest foot so the quality is good. It’s also worth including Ross Barkley as part of that attacking force at Everton."
Sir Stanley Matthews is certainly not a name that gets thrown around a lot in the modern era, due to the almost mythical nature of his ability, but Keown is clearly a huge fan of the Spanish wing wizard.
With his incredible dribbling skills and crossing ability there is no doubt that Deulofeu is looking like a hot prospect for the future, even if he is a throwback to the past.
