Jason Wilcox on his upcoming meeting with the Leeds United youth-team

The former England international winger will be taking on Leeds with the Manchester City youth set-up.

Leeds United's youth team came through a tough tie with Brentford in the FA Youth Cup this week and will now face Manchester City in the next round.

In doing so they will be going up against one of the best funded academies in the country which is also packed full of international young talents.

They will also be facing a former Leeds United player - in the form of the City manager Jason Wilcox.

The former England international, who represented the Three Lions three times in his career, joined Leeds from Blackburn Rovers in 1999 and stayed with the club for five years.

Ahead of the meeting with his former club he told the official Manchester City website:

“We’ve got Leeds in the next round, one of my former clubs, so I’m really looking forward to that.

“Leeds will be a good test but we’ve got to back ourselves to have enough to go there and win. We’ve got good enough players to win the competition and we work hard, so why not?”

City will go in to the game as favourites because of their superior funding but Leeds know they have some very talented young players who hope to emulate the likes of Lewis Cook, Alex Mowatt, Charlie Taylor and Sam Byram by making it to the Leeds first-team.

Getting one over on Wilcox and his City collection will no doubt help their chances.
