Could Liverpool dip into the transfer market this January?
Liverpool have had a strange season to date, with former manager Brendan Rodgers unable to get the best out of his signings before the Reds replaced him with one of the most exciting names in football in the form of Jurgen Klopp.
The German’s arrival instantly transformed the mood at Anfield and he is clearly making his mark both on and off the pitch.
While not every match has gone Liverpool’s way since Klopp took charge, there have been tantalising examples of what the club’s fans can expect once he has been at the helm for a while.
The most notable result was the 4-1 trouncing of Manchester City in their own backyard, while Liverpool smacked Southampton for six in the Capital One Cup, moving into the semi-finals in the process.
Klopp has already hinted that he will give the players he adopted the chance to impress before making any major changes, but with the January transfer window just around the corner, could the former Borussia Dortmund boss take at least one dip into the market?
As things stand the area most in need of improvement is at centre-back, but the kind of players Klopp may be interested in – the likes of Mats Hummels and Joel Matip – will not be available midway through the campaign.
Then there is Liverpool’s lack of striking options but that is more due to injury than anything else and Klopp will most likely make do with what he has and hope everyone gets fit in due course.
That leaves the wide positions, and with Jordon Ibe Liverpool’s only available recognised out-and-out winger, if Klopp strengthens anywhere in January it is likely to be there.
So what chance the Liverpool boss returning to the Bundesliga to sign Schalke teenager Leroy Sane?
After all, the 19-year-old is one of the most exciting players in his age group and he is versatile enough to play on either flank or even as an attacking midfielder if required.
With a contract until the summer of 2019 Sane will not come cheap, but Klopp could do a lot worse than sign a player who already has five goals and five assists this season.
With that in mind, could this be how Liverpool line up in early 2016?
