Newcastle United have won their last two fixtures.
The Magpies have won their last two matches – against Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur – to move away from the relegation zone. And Coloccini believes that Newcastle’s new found grit was what saw them over the line at White Hart Lane in their most recent outing.
“I think because we changed our mentality as normally when we are losing the games we have lost our heads and now I think we stay in the game and we found a goal,” Coloccini added.
“Then we trusted in ourselves that we could win the game and we got ourselves the three points.”
Prior to their revival in the last two matches Newcastle have been guilty of crumbling under pressure for much of the season to date.
The Magpies were evidently short of confidence, and when they conceded one it tended to open the floodgates.
Both Crystal Palace and Leicester City had hammered them last month, but there is now some genuine momentum behind Steve McClaren's men.
Newcastle are two points clear of the bottom three as things stand, and they have a good chance of putting even more daylight between themselves and the relegation zone at the weekend as they face bottom of the table Aston Villa.
