Newcastle should now make a January swoop for Bas Dost.
The Dutch international forward has a contract with the Bundesliga club which runs for 18 more months, and Wolfsburg are ready to sell him in January.
They believe he has served his purpose in their team, and the 26-year-old is at his peak value with his expiring contract, and goal record of seven strikes in 15 league ties this year.
Newcastle have long been linked with the forward, and they should make a January move for him now that he is available.
The Chronicle reported back in November that he is very much one of Newcastle’s priority targets for January, having failed to bring him to St James’ Park in January.
Wolfsburg were always making it hard to strike a deal, but now that the German club have transfer listed him, a deal looks all the more likely.
He will be available for a budget price, and will bring a guaranteed goal threat to a Magpies team who are still struggling in the final third.
Newcastle have improved in recent weeks, but they still need January recruitments, and Dost should be right at the front of the queue.
