Chalk this one up as another one missed for Louis van Gaal.
The agent of Turkish international attacker Arda Turan has confirmed his client had the chance to sign for Manchester United in the summer.
He said: "Last year, Manchester United made an offer for him but the Atletico Madrid refused. Meanwhile, I was talking with Barcelona but of course no one could know."
The BBC reported in the summer that Barcelona paid £24 million to sign Turan, with the deal potentially rising to £29 million with add ons.
Turan has been unable to play for the La Liga champions due to their transfer ban, meaning he cannot be registered. That ban expires this coming January.
That in itself shows the pulling power of Barcelona, that players are prepared to sit out for half a season just to feature in the second half, and with Euro 2016 to look forward to as well, Turan has a lot to look forward to and will not be regretting his decision, with the Spanish side actually making the knockout stages of the Champions League.
