According to a report by the Italian transfer expert Gianluca di Marzio, Watford have entered advanced talks over a deal to sign AS Roma’s Juan Iturbe in January.
Quique Flores Sanchez’s side have taken advantage of their superb scouting network, signing a number of excellent players last summer who have helped them more than compete at Premier League level.
With a top ten finish very much a realistic target, Watford look to bolster their squad further in January with reports suggesting Roma’s Juan Iturbe is close to joining the club.
“Iturbe looks destined to leave Roma for the Premier League, as the club are in advanced talks with Watford over a transfer for the player. The steps to a transfer appear to be proceeding rapidly and an agreement could be imminent,” the report by Gianluca di Marzio states.
Iturbe is an exciting talent, dubbed the new Lionel Messi back in Argentina due to a number of similarities with the Barcelona superstar, including playing style and diminutive stature.
Watford seemingly are not alone in their interest, with the report accrediting Serie A sides Bologna, Genoa, Sassuolo, Hellas Verona and AC Milan as potential suitors.
Moreover, a report in the Italian editorial Tuttomercatoweb cited fellow Premier League newcomers Bournemouth as taking a look at him ahead of January with their boss Eddie Howe keen to bolster the Cherries’ survival hopes.
But it appears Watford are currently leading the way, and what a coup he could turn out to be.
The 22-year-old has only made three Serie A starts for Roma this season, but his talent and undoubted potential could see him become a future star if afforded more first-team opportunities.
