The Argentine was more than happy to see River make it to the final of the FIFA Club World Cup.
The Argentine has struggled to make a significant impact in English football since his mega-money move from AS Roma. His first two seasons with the club went by with little impact but this term he is starting to come good and his recent hat-trick against Monaco was perhaps his best moment yet in a Spurs shirt.
But while he is now coming good at White Hart Lane it does not mean he has forgotten his roots.
Like so many Argentine talents to grace European football Lamela came through the ranks at one of his country's biggest clubs - River Plate.
The Buenos Aires club have encountered some problems in recent times but won the Copa Libertadores this year in a momentous occasion.
That saw them qualify for the FIFA Club World Cup which started this month.
River took on Japanese side Sanfrecce Hiroshima today and Lamela was one passionate fan who sent his message of support to his favourite club:
The Tottenham man was not left disappointed as a 72nd minute goal from in form attacker Lucas Alario sent River Plate to the final.
Lamela will no doubt be watching on when River face either Barcelona or Guangzhou Evergrande in the final on Sunday.
