The Algerian dedicated his goal against Chelsea to his teammates.
The Foxes are currently top of the Premier League after 16 games, with their 2-1 win over Chelsea on Monday evening taking them two points clear of Arsenal.
That victory over the champions was one of a number of impressive displays from Claudio Ranieri’s side this year, with them continuing their fine form from the end of last season.
The form of Mahrez, and striker Jamie Vardy has been essential to their rise to the top, but the Algerian winger says their team spirit is what has truly been key to their rise.
“The key I think is our strength and our spirit. We work hard for each other and the club and that is the key,” he told lcfc.com.
“We like each other. We have spent a lot of time together and that gives us solidity and we have a lot of confidence as well.
“That’s very good for the team and very good for the club.”
Monday evening’s win saw Mahrez continue his world-class performances this season, as he bagged a goal and an assist in the game.
The goal was his 11th Premier League striker of the campaign, while his cross to set up Vardy’s latest goal was his seventh assist as well.
The winger was insistent on focusing on yet another team performance from the side though, rather than allowing his individual display to grab the headlines.
“It was just a goal like every goal,” he added.
“It’s for the team and I’m very happy to keep going in my run. I have 11 goals and seven assists but again the most important thing is the team.”
“I just want to help the team to win games and at the moment that’s working so I’ll have to keep going like this.”
