Beardsley is currently in charge of the Magpies' under-21 set-up and he has seen Dummett progress from a promising youth team player into a regular first-team starter. And the Newcastle United great says that he has been delighted to see the defender become a key part of Steve McClaren’s senior squad.
"I feel very proud that Paul Dummett is our left-back now, wearing the No 3," he said. “He came through when I was here with Willie Donachie. That’s our job."
Dummett missed much of the early part of the season with injury, but he has come back into Newcastle’s team recently.
The 24-year-old has started at left-back in the Magpies’ last four matches, and he has helped them turn their form around.
Newcastle have won their last two matches – against Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool - to move out of the relegation zone.
Newcastle’s next contest comes against Aston Villa at the weekend, and a win in that game could put clear daylight between themselves and the bottom three.
