The reported Tottenham Hotspur target is staying right where he is according to a report in his homeland.
According to a report from the print edition of Belgian newspaper Het Nieuwsblad, Tottenham Hotspur target Michy Batshuayi has no intention of swapping clubs during the January transfer window due to the upcoming European Championship.
Batshuayi is currently excelling for French club Marseille, scoring 14 goals in 23 matches to date, and the report – which was later published online by Sport Witness – claims the 22-year-old wants to remain where he is in the hope of convincing Belgium coach Marc Wilmots he deserves a place in the squad.
The report also states that Batshuayi’s entourage – whoever they may be – are well aware of Tottenham’s interest but have informed the newspaper that the young striker is going nowhere as he has no intention of fighting for a starting spot at a new club.
Tottenham are in a tricky position as they could do with additional firepower but they will need to sign a player willing to play second fiddle to Harry Kane.
That is something Batshuayi will not want to do, and unless Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino opts to play two up front, it is a conundrum he may have to solve another way, most likely by signing a teenage forward who is prepared to bide their time.
