Jack Colback discloses what Newcastle's squad were saying at half-time at White Hart Lane

Newcastle United won 2-1 at the weekend to move out of the relegation zone.

Jack Colback has told the Shields Gazette that Newcastle United’s players were all positive at half-time at White Hart Lane.

Newcastle won their match against Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 at the weekend, but they required a big turnaround in the second half.

The Magpies scored twice in the contest late on and Colback believes that the dressing room discussion at half-time helped them get back into the match.

“We had a gameplan to stay compact,” said Colback. “It was working until they got the ball.

“We just said at half time ‘stay in the game – at 1-0 we’re still in it’. We got the equaliser, and then to get the winner was a great feeling.”

Newcastle had been off the pace in the first half of the contest, but Mauricio Pochettino’s side took their foot off the gas in the second period and the Tynesiders ultimately made them pay.

The Magpies scored twice through Aleksandar Mitrovic and Ayoze Perez to take the three points in North London and move out of the relegation zone in the process.

Newcastle have now won their last two matches, and momentum is building around St. James’ Park for the first time this season.

McClaren’s side’s next match comes against struggling Aston Villa and if they are able to pick up the victory they could put daylight between themselves and the relegation zone.
