The Tottenham Hotspur centre-back may be wondering what would have happened if he had completed a mooted move to West Bromwich Albion last summer.
Last summer Tottenham Hotspur defender Federico Fazio was heavily linked with a move to fellow Premier League club West Bromwich Albion, only for the Daily Mail to later report that the proposed deal had broken down due to an impasse regarding personal terms.
Since then Fazio has endured a torrid time at Tottenham, featuring just once all season and looking anything but impressive in a 2-1 defeat to Arsenal in the Capital One Cup back in September.
Since then the Argentine has made the bench just five times in all competitions and without a single minute of league or European football to date, he must be wondering where it all went so wrong.
A recent report from the Mail claimed West Brom could renew their interest in the Tottenham player in January. But the arrival of Jonny Evans means the Baggies are no longer in needed of additional defensive reinforcements and Fazio will not want to simply swap one substitutes’ bench for another.
There could be other clubs willing to take him off Tottenham’s hands, but there is the very real possibility that Fazio could remain in limbo at least for the rest of this season.
How different it could have been if he had managed to agree terms with the Baggies prior to Evans’ arrival, but West Brom fans will not be complaining given the Northern Ireland international’s fine showings to date.
