Leicester have begun the season by crushing all of the pre-season predictions, winning ten of their 16 Premier League matches to top the table ahead of the busy festive period.
The Foxes have lost just once thus far, and Monday’s 2-1 victory over Chelsea only enhanced the belief that they could in fact challenge the likes of Manchester City for the title this season.
But the bookmakers still aren’t sure, or at least that is where people’s money currently lies.
Even after their success over Jose Mourinho’s men, the East Midlands side place behind Liverpool as favourites for a top four spot, with odds of 13/8 on offer.
The Reds have made notable improvements under German boss Jurgen Klopp, with one huge difference being their increased energy levels and running off the ball.
But results have been somewhat inconsistent, with big away wins over Chelsea and Manchester City let down by disappointing results at home to Crystal Palace, Southampton and West Bromwich Albion.
The Reds currently lie in ninth position in the table, only five points shy of Manchester United in fourth but 11 points behind Leicester with the duo set to meet at Anfield on Boxing Day.
Liverpool are 11/10 to finish in the top four; hardly convincing odds yet it is still better than Leicester despite early season performances and results evidently suggesting otherwise.
With 22 games left and 66 points still to play for there are plenty of twists and turns to come yet, but nobody can deny that the Foxes have put themselves in a commanding position.
71 points usually guarantees a top four spot; therefore another 36 from 22 games will see Ranieri’s side there – the sort of form Crystal Palace are currently producing.
